What is physical therapy?
Physical therapy targets gross motor development and coordination through meaningful therapeutic exercises and activities. Physical Therapy can enhance functional performance within the following areas:
· Strength
· Balance
· Endurance
· Coordination
· Gait
· Tone
· Spasticity
What is Occupational Therapy?
Occupational therapy supports motor, cognitive, emotional, sensory processing and integration, social development, and self-care skills through meaningful therapeutic activities.
What does an Occupational therapy evaluation look like?
An occupational therapy evaluation is administered by an occupational therapist (OT). During the evaluation, the OT will use dynamic assessment including parent interview, standardized testing and play to assess the child's current functional status in the areas above. Together, the therapist alongside the family and the child will develop a treatment plan including short-term and long-term goals to improve targeted skills and functional limitations. The frequency and duration of services being recommended are also determined during the evaluation. The Occupational therapy evaluation will last approximately 60 minutes
What does an occupational therapy session look like?
An occupational therapy session is performed by an occupational therapist (OT). The sessions are used to address the goals developed within the speech evaluation. The therapist provides one-on-one direct treatment integrating therapeutic activities to enhance progress. Parental education and a comprehensive home education program are also provided to support the carryover of skills to the home and community. Each occupational therapy session is 60 minutes in duration.
What is speech therapy?
Therapy that targets all areas of speech and language development, including receptive and expressive language, pragmatic language, social skills, articulation, fluency, and voice. Other aspects of treatment might include problem solving, reasoning, feeding and swallowing, oral motor training, and training with alternative and augmentative communication.
What does a speech evaluation look like?
A speech therapy evaluation is administered by a speech language pathologist (SLP). During the evaluation, the SLP will use dynamic assessment including parent interview, standardized testing and play to assess the child's current functional status in the areas above. Together, the therapist alongside the family and the child will develop a treatment plan including short-term and long-term goals to improve targeted skills and functional limitations. The frequency and duration of services being recommended are also determined during the evaluation. The Speech evaluation will last approximately 60 minutes
What does a speech therapy session look like?
A Speech therapy session is performed by a speech language pathologist (SLP). The sessions are used to address the goals developed within the speech evaluation. The therapist provides one-on-one direct treatment integrating therapeutic activities to enhance progress. Parental education and a comprehensive home education program are also provided to support the carryover of skills to the home and community. Each speech session is 45 minutes in duration.
